7” Pilea

740.00

This native of Yunnan and Sichuan province of China is a species of flowering plants that belong to the Nettle family. This erect, evergreen perennial plant has petite saucer-like leaves that wobble around on long extended stems. In their native wild terrains, a Pilea can be found in damp, rocky environments. A poorly grown Pilea will become leggy and unimpressive, however, by pinching off new growth and encouraging new branches it is possible to create a better looking, more compact plant

Adopting and caring for Pilea

Adopting: It’s easy to fall in love with the dainty leaves of a Pilea. At ePlants, we pick out display-ready plants with mature, well-grown leaves and plants that are petite and rounded.
Locating: Pilea thrive in medium to bright light even though they are known to tolerate artificially lit indoor conditions too. However, exposing these plants to direct sunlight for extended periods can burn or yellow their leaves.
Potting: Pilea do not need any special type of potting soil, and they do well in any well-drained potting soil rich with organic material. Use a mix of coco-peat, compost, sand in 20:60:20 ratio could do them a lot of good.
Watering: Overwatering is the chief cause of disease or death of any plant. While a Pilea needs regular watering, do ensure that you don’t overwater them.
Fertilising: Pilea are perennials, which means if maintained well, a well-grown plant could stay with you for years and years. Feeding them some organic liquid fertiliser a few times a year is the best way to keep them happy. Dilute it in water as described on the pack and add little to each pot as part of your watering routine. If you are using a chemical fertiliser do ensure that you keep it away from the plant and its base.
Pilea are also called Missionary Plant in recognition of a Norwegian missionary who introduced the plant in Europe in the 1940s.

Did you know

Did you know: In China, a Pilea is called a money plant because its leaves resemble coins.

It’s my first purchase from them. My previous experiences of online plant purchase weren’t so pleasant owing to the soil spillage, plants in shock, leaves dying etc. But Eplants completely changed my view of online plant-shopping with their beautiful way of packing and excellent condition of plants. I hope my Pilea makes it and becomes a beautiful plant. Will definitely order more from here.
