Adopting and caring for 10”Syngonium mini green
Adopting : Syngonium like to spread out. An unwieldy plant is an indication that they have not been cared for. Look for fresh, bushy plants with richly coloured leaves. While Syngonium are not prone to pests, it’s best to look at the leaves and stems for any signs of pest damage.
Locating : Strong, direct sun will scorch the leaves of a Syngonium. So these plants do best in brighter areas that offer filtered light. Many varieties tend to lose their unique leaf colours or their variegation if they don’t get adequate light
Potting : Syngonium needs rich, well-drained soils that have been fortified with organic material. So it is ideal to mix good quantities of compost into the potting mix. A blend of coco-peat, compost and river sand in a 30:50:20 ratio should help your plant to do well.
Watering : Syngonium likes regular watering, especially if they are growing in pots, even though it can’t stand waterlogged conditions, a good, well-draining potting mixture is ideal to keep your plant happy
Fertilising : The beauty of a Syngonium plant is the unique variegation that these plants exhibit on their leaves. Too much fertiliser can cause their leaves to lose this characteristic. If you have a good potting mixture and the plants are looking bushy and healthy, you can skip the fertilising entirely. However, if you are keen to feed them use an organic liquid fertiliser. If you are using a chemical mix, dilute them to half the prescribed strength and fertilise them once a month or so. Do ensure that the chemicals do not come in contact with the leaves.
Syngonium are extremely easy to grow. Their ability to endure long periods in low light settings make them very popular indoor plants. These plants will achieve their most vibrant bright coloured foliage in high, bright indirect light and at consistently warm temperatures.
